Explore the history, tradition and flavours of Umbrian wine production. An introduction to Umbria’s wine and food with pleasant days of wine tasting, sightseeing and relaxation. A five days wine tour for wine lovers.
Day 1 Arrival at Villa di Monte Solare. Welcome drink and presentation of the programme. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 2 Drive to Torgiano and visit the Lungarotti Foundation’s Wine Museum, one of the best in the world. Giorgio Lungarotti was the first wine producer to export Umbrian wines all over the world, but his fame has grown enormously because of the importance of the collections shown in his museum. Wine tasting with some Umbrian specialities in the “Osteria”. In the afternoon we suggest a drive to Deruta, the capital of artistic ceramics, and visiting its famous workshops. In the evening dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 Drive to Assisi and visit the world heritage “Eremo delle Carceri”, a fascinating monastery overlooking Assisi. Descending to the old town visit the heartbreaking Basilica of Saint Francis and enjoy the magical mediaeval scenery. Wine tasting with some Umbrian specialities in a famous winery, visiting vineyards and cellars. In the afternoon we suggest a trip to Spello, a real gem among mediaeval Italian towns with magnificent monuments and the beautiful gardens of Villa Fidelia. In the evening dinner at the hotel.
Day 4 Drive to Orvieto on the road “Ficullese” crossing the Family Antinori’s estate Castello della Sala A visit to Orvieto with an unforgettable view of the “Duomo”, a shrine which preserves centuries of history of Italian medieval and renaissance art. Wine tasting with some Umbrian specialities in a famous winery, visiting vineyards and cellars.In the afternoon we suggest a visit to Civita di Bagnoregio, a magic scenery created by the natural strength of an earthquake with fantastic unique views. In the evening dinner at the hotel.
Day 5 Drive to Bevagna and visit to the enchanting mediaeval town, formerly the Roman colony Mevanium: tour around the town and visit to the Roman theatre and the Roman baths with their famous mosaic, the Romanic churches of St. Silvester and St. Michael the Archangel and the tiny XIXth century theatre Torti. Drive on the Strada del Sagrantino to Montefalco. Montefalco Rosso, Sagrantino secco and Sagrantino passito wine tasting with some local specialities in a famous winery, visiting vineyards and cellars. In the afternoon visit to Montefalco with its breathtaking views and the famous frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli in the church of St. Francis. In the evening dinner at the hotel.
Day 6 After breakfast departure.
